A postdoctoral position and a PhD position to explore ultrafast dynamics and control of molecular processes in strong fields are open in my research group.

Topic: This project explores intense laser-molecule interactions. Attention will focus on the chemical transformations resulting from hydrogen molecule roaming mechanisms. For example: http://dx.doi.org//10.1038/s41598-017-04666-w
Our goal is to better understand and control these processes by modifying the characteristics of the laser field, based on the timescales for electronic, vibrational and rotational motions, taking advantage of our extensive expertise in femtosecond laser pulse shaping, e.g. https://doi.org/10.1364/JOSAB.25.00A140
Profile: PhD in chemistry or physics with experience in the operation and alignment of femtosecond lasers, ultrafast spectroscopy, and charged particle detection methods for example: time-of-flight spectrometry, velocity-map imaging, photoelectron spectroscopy, coincidence methods such as COLTRIMS, PEPICO or PIPICO.
Start: January 2019 or later.
Duration: 2-3 years (the first year is a trial period).
Salary: depending on experience, starting from $49000.- US per year. The cost of living in the East Lansing, Michigan area is about half of the cost of living in major cities in the United States.
