Hi All
At the PMB last Monday we had a discussion on coordinating (or at least ensuring we aren’t working at cross purposes) the Rucio work that is going on in the UK. It was decided that I should do this and a good place to do this would be in the Technical Meeting slot.
I never attend the previous incarnation of the Technical meetings so I don’t really know how they were run. As the frequency of technical discussions seems to vary, my intention is that I will create the agenda for every Friday. The aim would be to keep the meeting to a single topic which would be announced at the Tuesday Ops meeting (if no announcement then it isn’t on). People could then decide if it was a discussion they wanted to join.
I already had a few topics in mind…
1) LFC to Dirac File Catalogue migration (for T2K).
We are trying to decommission the LFC at the Tier-1. The intention is to move this to the DFG on the GridPP DIRAC instance. Daniela and Simon have been poking around trying to figure out a workable plan. It might be useful for anyone who is storing T2K at their site. I have asked some T2K people if they are available for this week (9/11/18). An agenda has been created here: https://indico.cern.ch/event/770333/
2) Status of Rucio instance at RAL and plans for SKA
Ian Johnson has transforming the test Rucio instance at RAL into a production quality service. This will hopefully go on to become a Multi-VO Rucio instance but for now it just supports SKA. I would also like to discuss if any admin privileges could be devolved out to people in GridPP. On the one hand there is having access to our Openstack instance so you could fire up an extra daemon if necessary, but there is also having admin privileges at the Rucio client level so you can update a sites endpoint url yourself rather than always having to ticket and wait for the Tier-1. Could be interesting for any site planning on hosting SKA data. I thought that might be good for the 16/11/18.
3) Publishing Static CE information via json (to replace the BDii)
There have been many meetings to discuss the json that will replace the static CE information in the BDii. From the last one I attended we agreed on a prototype and wanted various sites to try it. Anyone who wants to get rid of the BDii but doesn’t know how, is welcome to join! If nobody else has any suggestions for meetings we could do this on the 23/11/18.
I know David Crooks has some security related initiatives he wanted to discuss (soon). If we wanted a discussion on some aspects of HTCondor, I could volunteer some RAL people for that. From previous agendas I can see that VAC, Clouds, Storage, networking and /etc were other topics that were discussed. Feel free to suggest things, this shouldn’t be just me pushing my own agenda, any agenda that fits in with the GridPP strategy is fine!
Alastair
