The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office is a Ministry of Defence trading
fund based in Taunton, Somerset and employs c850 personnel across a range
of specialist and technical roles, including many experienced mariners and
Royal Navy personnel.
We are a world-leading agency providing the most comprehensive range of
marine geospatial information across the globe. This information is
supplied to commercial shipping, defence navies and maritime organisations
for the primary purpose of safe navigation and global trade efficiency. It
also supports other marine activities including economic development,
environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific
research and security and defence.
Her Majesty's Nautical Almanac Office (HMNAO) sits within the Scientific
Analysis Group: a team of Scientists who provide support to commercial
shipping, the Royal Navy and other defence customers by ensuring that
marine data relating to worldwide and UK coastal waters is accurate and up
to date, and by providing hydrographic expertise and a range of specialist
consultancy services.
HM Nautical Almanac Office (HMNAO) is one of the four main almanac offices
around the world. It collaborates closely with the US Naval Observatory in
Washington, being jointly responsible for The Astronomical Almanac and The
Nautical Almanac. These products are very familiar to Astronomers and
Navigators respectively worldwide. This position involves working on these
prestigious publications as well as supporting the development of products
and services of HMNAO.
The team are focused on remaining at the forefront of computational
astronomy and celestial navigation, providing customers with astronomical
data in the most appropriate, contemporary manner possible.
