'Chronic Failures: Kidneys, Regimes and Care and State in Mexico'
This paper discusses the routes uninsured kidney patients take to secure technologized medical care in Mexico in the context of welfare state failures and the rise of a new and unexplained rise in failing kidneys – namely Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Origin, a variant of kidney disease linked to the entangled conditions of labour, environmental degradation and poverty. It emphasises the importance of political economy perspectives when attempting to account for the complex relationships between cause and care.
UPCOMING SEMINARS:
Thursday, December 6th: Dr Rebecca Lynch (LSHTM)
'Mastering the body: Willpower and surgery for urinary control'
