Call for applicants
As the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine representative on the ESRC UBEL Board, I would like to announce this year's competition for full and part-time PhD studentships (entry Sept 2020) and express our interest in working with a prospective individual towards submitting a competitive social science application in any health related topic to be based at The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Diseases (LSHTM) - see https://www.lshtm.ac.uk/study/fees-funding/funding-scholarships/bloomsbury-east-london-dtp-esrc-research-studentships-2019-entry
The ESRC UBEL awards 40-50 grants for prospective PhD researchers at a number of partner London institutions, including LSHTM. UK residents receive full fees and a stipend; EU students would only have their fees paid. See https://ubel-dtp.ac.uk/
If successful, the student will have the opportunity to work closely with other social scientists at LSHTM. We are keen to attract someone who has a strong anthropology, sociology, STS, economics or policy-related first degree (and possibly Masters) who can draw on these theories and methods in a short research proposal.
If you are interested in submitting an application to this grant scheme and join our expanding faculty, please make contact with me, Simon Cohn ([log in to unmask]), or Andrew Hutchings ([log in to unmask]) as soon as possible to discuss possible topics and who might be best to supervise you.
In collaboration with potential supervisors, a preliminary application is due January, and then if it is progressed, the deadline for full applications is at the end of February 2019.
Please circulate this call to anyone who might be interested.
All the best,
Simon Cohn
