The Unit is offering an exciting opportunity to work on cutting edge Bayesian statistical methods for the analysis of genomics data within the research program for integrative genomics led by Prof Sylvia Richardson.
Specifically, the post holder will be expected to engage in current work on the detection of weak trans-expression Quantitative Trait Loci effects using a Bayesian method recently developed with collaborator Dr Leonardo Bottolo, Department of Medical Genetics and The Alan Turing Institute, and applying it to the large data set of the international Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) project. Complementary statistical and bioinformatics analyses of the output will be undertaken in order to enhance its biological interpretability. It is also expected that the post holder will contribute to the development of generic statistical methods for integrative genomics analysis of RNA-seq data as well as proteins and metabolites.
A PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics or Computer Science, or a closely aligned discipline, is essential. Applicants should also have a background in Bayesian statistics and computation, and be able to implement data analysis packages in low-level language (C++). Knowledge of approximate methods for Bayesian inference of large data sets such as Variational Bayes is also desirable.
The successful candidate must be able to work effectively within a team, have the ability to develop and apply new concepts, and have a creative approach to problem-solving. The successful candidate will be expected to develop contacts and collaborations within Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
