Good afternoon all
I must admit to being a very occasional contributor to this list but hope some of you can offer some advice. I manage the web services at the Scottish Funding Council (www.sfc.ac.uk). We're not a FE/HE institution as such but distribute public funding to Scottish colleges and universities.
I'm doing some very initial research into the possibility of changing our web CMS in the future. We currently use a product called Activedition which has served us well but the vendor, C2 Software, has changed its own priorities over the years to the point that we are now using the last version of the software that is likely to be developed - so now seems a good time to think about moving on.
Our website and intranet both use Activedition, each with connections to our Dynamics CRM. We also use other 3rd party tools for blog commenting, site search and social media. So we're basically looking at replacing the CMS with another one without changing the overall set-up or doing any kind of site re-design.
If anyone has experience of switching their CMS, any advice would be greatly appreciated, in particular:
- Any pitfalls or things to look out for?
- Open source or propretary?
- Recommended small-medium scale CMS systems?
Many thanks
Giulio Romano
