DTU Management Engineering’s Transport Modelling Division invites applications for an appointment as Associate Professor in the area of Optimisation within Transport Modelling. The associate professorship is a permanent faculty position.
The Transport Modelling Division is a lively and research oriented group of scientists and support staff with a shared interest in understanding, mathematically and algorithmically representing, predicting, and analysing transport phenomena in perspectives that range from private to public transport, real-time operations to long term planning, classical mobility technologies to new “smart” mobility options. The group focus methodologically on network modelling, demand and machine learning for smart mobility.

The aim of the new position is to expand the Department’s teaching and research in modelling focusing on making large-scale models more efficient and on integrating optimisation of transport systems within transport modelling, e.g. optimising public transport timetables with an integrated evaluation of passenger responses and societal benefits.

We envision the position to help expand the division’s research in application areas such as
• Development of integrated optimization and transport models for public transport, air transport or scheduled freight transport, possible including multi-modal transport
• Development of combined machine learning and optimization models, where the dynamic optimization reacts to predictions, including uncertainty, potential feedback (e.g. supply reacting to demand, which reacts to supply…)
• Developing efficient methods to solve transport network problems, e.g. train path allocation within railway network simulation models
• Contributing to the overall architecture of large-scale transport models with the aim of making the solution algorithms more efficient, e.g. the Danish National Transport Model
• Research into use of “new” type of data-sources for transport modelling, including e.g. smart card data, smartphone-based surveys, and combination of data-sources

All DTU's graduate courses are taught in English, and the division language is English, whereas most undergraduate courses are taught in Danish. Some of the industry outreach will benefit of Danish language skills. For international candidates, DTU offers Danish language courses for the purpose of being able to teach in Danish within the first 2-3 years.
Qualifications
Candidates must
• hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship
• document didactic/pedagogic training
The key qualification requirements are as follows
• Documented scientific production/publication and research potential
• Ability and desire to contribute to the Divisions national and international collaborative efforts, including the dissemination of research results and research-based consultancy and innovation in society.
• Teaching experience and good communication skills
