Dear Cecily

Very interested to read about your proposed study REDUCE, with the aim of reducing Cs.

This is a concern worldwide and we have been addressing this here in NZ.

I'm a research midwife at Christchurch Women's Hospital and was wondering if you were considering collaborating with other centres.?

I would be very interested to hear more.

All the very best.

(Apologies for cross-posting)

Dear All

We have 2-3 posts available for experienced midwives who would like to be involved in our REDUCE study, aiming to reduce CSs in Ireland. Research experience is not at all as important as being an enthusiastic, committed and experienced midwife who either likes being creative and developing online materials, videos, etc OR likes supporting and educating clinicians to reduce unnecessary interventions and support normal birth.

Details are:

Post Title: Research Assistants – REDUCE Study Post Status: 12 to 18 months Fixed-term Contract (November 2018 – October 2019/April 2020) – three part-time posts OR one full-time (18 months) and one half-time post (12 months) School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin

Location: 24 D’Olier Street, Dublin 2, Ireland Reports to: Prof Cecily Begley

Salary: Appointment will be made on the IUA Researcher salary scale (Level 1, 2 or 3) at a point in line with Government Pay Policy [€30,092 to €58,016], and commensurate with experience.

Hours of Work: 20 – 40 hours/week

Closing Date: 12 Noon (Irish Standard Time), 25 October 2018 Interviews will be held on 7th November

Dear all

I am a midwife lead of an alongside Birth centre in Florence (the Margherita birth centre) and am currently working on revising a document that describes the knowledge and skills of midwives required to work in a birth centre The recent publication of the European standards from MUNet highlights the need for this written document and indicates key points

I simply would like to know from you if you have any policy, document or criteria adopted in your MLUs to share in support of the work I am doing

In particular besides skills That midwives need to have once working in a MLU I am interested also in knowing whether you have some criteria you use to identify the midwives that could work there (a sort or prerequisite to some extent), as this is of interest also for a working group with our national college of midwives some of us italiana are involved with

Thanks infinitely in advance for all your support and inputs I look forward to knowing more from you

Regards

Laura

When recruiting midwives I think you need to look for candidates who have a strong belief in the concept of Salutogenesis, who have a commitment to women's choice even when those choices may not be within recommended protocols and who are willing to challenge medical authority using the evidence which supports normality (as so much of the well-designed research does these days) while at the same time can be a resource for doctors to learn more about normality. As many midwives qualifying today do not have much experience of non-medicalised birth candidates must be willing to learn the skills so essential to care for women in this way.

Best wishes

Fiona

* improving interventions to manage at-risk pregnancies, or

*    optimising bereavement care

This year we are inviting applications for grants to a maximum of £40,000. These may be pump priming or seed awards. We will also consider applications for part-funding.

The deadline for application is 1700 hours on 3 December 2018.

Please send completed outline forms to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> - or contact that email for further queries.

I hope this might be interest.
