Dear Fiona
I think some work on autonomy would be really useful.
It is perhaps through a combination of the right education, the right regulation and the opportunity to practice in settings like continuity of carer, primary care midwifery ( including midwifery led care in and out of hospitals), that professional autonomy, within a framework of collaboration, is achieved.
I learned a great deal from Canada-but we must remember that midwifery is not accessible to all there. Perhaps we should be looking to New Zealand?
thanks and best wishes
Lesley
