Subject: FW: Layers of London - Mapping Cultural Histories
Good Morning all,
I hope your weekends were relaxing and the transition into Monday has not been too arduous!
I recently started a new role at the Senate House Library working on a research/mapping project with the University of London’s Institute of Historical Research (IHR), called 'Layers of London' (https://www.layersoflondon.org/map).
Essentially it is a pioneering online map that can be used as a free research tool, allowing it's users to contribute to developing a record of London's cultural histories. Using the contemporary map in addition to layered historic maps, users can record insightful and nuanced stories. As a Heritage Lottery Funded project, it has been made in collaboration with the National Archives, Historic England, the British Library, Museum of London Archaeology, London Metropolitan Archives, Birkbeck University and other partners.
I believe the map could be of great use to community groups, researchers and students as well as social activists in having the ability to map contemporary and historical features of the city of London.
I am at the early research stage of my post however, I wish to engage with substantive groups who may benefit/ have interests in using the website. This engagement could take the form of constructive seminars and guest lectures on the practical uses and application of the maps.
Please do disseminate widely and do not hesitate to get in contact if you have any enquiries.
My best,
Nathaniel Telemaque
