24-month full-time post of Archivist, based at Dunham Massey Hall near Altrincham, Greater Manchester. Salary £27,191 p.a.
Dunham Massey is extraordinary; not least because it has one of the largest collections in the National Trust, but also because it continues to unveil new stories as research and objects are united together to present over 300 years of family history. By unlocking the potential within the Dunham estate archive papers, we’ll gain a deeper insight into the management of the estate, as well as uncovering people’s histories linked to Dunham Massey Hall.
You’ll unlock the potential within the archive by producing a detailed online catalogue supporting Dunham Massey and the John Rylands Library in Manchester. You will undertake work to facilitate a large loan deposit to the John Rylands Library, whilst prioritising conservation requirements for the remainder of the archive. You are required to plan and implement the creation of an archive storeroom within Dunham Massey Hall as a long term storage solution.
You'll recruit and supervise a team of volunteers who will contribute to the project. You will manage your team to ensure that conservation and visitor engagement are their key focuses whilst monitoring their performance, identifying training needs, and of course ensuring that budget is kept on track.
