Dear All
The Qatar Foundation Partnership Programme at the British Library is recruiting a new Gulf History Cataloguing Manager. Details, including instructions on how to apply, are available on the Library's site: https://britishlibrary.recruitment.northgatearinso.com/birl/pages/vacancy.jsf?latest=01001672
The British Library leads and collaborates in growing the world’s knowledge base. We are engaged in a major partnership with the Qatar Foundation and the Qatar National Library to digitise and make available material relating to the history of the Gulf and Arabic scientific manuscripts. We are a multi-disciplinary programme that includes conservation, content specialists, translation, and imaging with external funding committed until December 2021.
The partnership is about to begin its third phase. We will be delivering an additional 900,000 fully searchable and contextualised digital images, made freely available via the dedicated portal at www.qdl.qa and selected from the library’s archive collections, including the India Office Records and Private Papers, Sound, Maps and Arabic Manuscript collections.
This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the Gulf History cataloguing team on the programme. As the Gulf History Cataloguing Manager you will be responsible for managing the cataloguing team, ensuring that they deliver high quality archival catalogues, contextual articles and blogs as well as overseeing the team’s copyright and data protection activities. You will also be responsible for identifying material suitable for publicity and outreach purposes.
You will have experience working with historic collections and managing staff. You will also have excellent communication and organisational skills and a strong commitment to developing your understanding of our archives relating to the Gulf and their historical and geographical context and expanding your knowledge of the history of the Middle East.
Regards
Lynda
