We are looking for volunteers to assist the archivist at the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA).
CFCCA is a contemporary art gallery and venue that has been in the heart of Manchester for over 30 years. Through a rich programme of exhibitions, events, artist residencies and more we bring Chinese contemporary art to a UK audience. For more information on the CFCCA please see our website (http://cfcca.org.uk). CFCCA’s Archive and Library opened to the public in June 2018 following a 15 month project supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. The archive and library holds the records of the Centre charting its 32 year history and a small but comprehensive library collection documenting the development of Chinese Contemporary art since the 1980s. More information about our collections can be found on our online catalogue (http://archive.cfcca.org.uk/)
Volunteers will have the opportunity to develop practical experience of collection management and develop a good understanding of CFCCA’s legacy as the leading organisation for the research and exhibition of Chinese contemporary art in the UK. Tasks include archive and library cataloguing using open source software; digitizing physical records and processing born-digital records; carrying out research on our past programme and artists; supporting access to the collections; and providing assistance with engagement activities. No previous experience is required, but volunteers will get the most from this experience if wish to pursue a carrier in the heritage sector or have an interest in contemporary visual arts and are keen to develop their research skills in a professional gallery environment.
The Centre also offers voluntary roles associated with visitor services, the curatorial team, and events and engagement. We are also able to accommodate occasional student placements and work experience requests.
