Dear all,
Every year, The National Archives invites over 300 collecting archives to tell us what records they have taken in over the last year. We are very grateful to the archives that create and share their collections information for this purpose.
The outputs of the 2017 Accessions to Repositories Survey are now available on our website: http://nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/projects-and-programmes/accessions/.
What are the aims of the survey?
o To offer insight into collecting trends and highlight collections of particular interest in a report, so that archives and sector stakeholders can see isolated collecting activity in a wider context.
Read What's new in archives? Accessions to Repositories 2017<https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documents/whats-new-in-archives-accessions-to-repositories-2017.pdf>.
o To share collections information via Discovery<http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/> and provide a curated overview<http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/accessions/> of collecting by theme and repository to stimulate interest in new collections and encourage access or generate evidence of user demand, which might be useful to archives when prioritising cataloguing activity for example.
See the 2017 survey<http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/accessions/> results by archives service and theme. Some themes have been refreshed for 2017 and renamed to be more comprehensive and wider ranging, so Black history has become Black and ethnic minority and LGBT has become LGBTQ. We have also merged some categories and introduced a couple of new ones to reflect significant gaps in the thematic overview, including Charities and philanthropy and Environment.
o To give access to the complete raw data on data.gov.uk (including all single and traditionally non-archival items and accruals) gathered from participating archives to encourage research and analysis into collecting and collections.
We will be contacting archives inviting them to participate in the 2018 survey later in the year, so if you are interested in taking part for the first time, please contact the team at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
Many thanks,
Sam
