Thanks for the link to the paper; I've queued it up for reading.
I will note one immediate point of concern for me.
The snippet you included basically says, "Since x implies y, then making y
the case will cause x."
This is not *necessarily* true.
If there's evidence that it's true, then hopefully that evidence is in the
paper - which I have every intention of reading; just not right now.
From a strictly logical point of view, however, the argument is invalid.
