The volume
, edited by Carol Upadhya, Mario Rutten and Leah Koskimaki, explores the
developmental and political interventions of regional diasporas in their
home towns and villages in India.
The component chapters map the movement of people from small towns and
villages in India to places outside the country and explore how their
provincial home worlds engage with and absorb the consequent transnational
flows of money, ideas, influence and care. The ethnographic essays
illustrate the various ways in which migrants from four regions of
India - central
Gujarat, coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra and Doaba in Punjab - remain
socially, economically and politically influential in their home towns and
communities.
