This issue carries some important announcements on future statistical events and information about awards granted to IASS members for their significant input to the statistical sciences. The IASS President Peter Lynn stresses the need to protect statistical integrity from political interference and emphasizes the role of the IASS to provide a means to share the expertise and knowledge of IASS members across the global community. The Scientific Secretary Risto Lehtonen describes important events devoted for knowledge sharing.
Besides our regular features of country reports on activities related to survey statistics, a list of Contents of relevant journals and information on upcoming conferences/workshops, we also have special articles in each issue under the headings “Ask the Expert”, “New and Emerging Methods” and “Book/Software Review”.
The current issue contains the following:
§ Ask the Experts section provides an answer by Geert Loosveldt (Centre for Sociological Research, KU Leuven) to the question “What are Interviewer Effects on Measurement Error?”
§ New and Emerging Methods section includes an article of Yves Berger (University of Southampton) titled “Empirical likelihood approaches in survey sampling”.
§ Book & Software Review section presents an overview by Olga Vasylyk and Tetiana Ianevych (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine) of “Guidelines for Best Practice in Cross-Cultural Surveys”, Survey Research Center, University of Michigan (2016).
We thank all of the section editors and contributors to the newsletter.
