St George’s, University of London, seeks to appoint a Research Statistician in support of Professor Joan Morris, who is taking up the position of Professor of Medical Statistics later in 2018. The successful applicant will support the development of new research initiatives concerning the identification of risk factors associated with the occurrence of congenital anomalies (birth defects), such as identifying potentially teratogenic medications and environmental risk factors. Potential projects include:
* Using and improving signal detection methods to identify potential teratogenic medications in a European database
* Developing a robust method of estimating European prevalence of rare anomalies
* Working with clinicians on the epidemiology of specific congenital anomalies, such as vascular disruption anomalies.
In addition, the research statistician will assist Professor Morris in providing statistical advice to the Joint Research Council in Europe for the analysis of congenital anomaly data, to Public Health England and to collaborating neonatologists working on trials and observational studies involving premature babies.
The post will suit an individual with strong statistical and organizational skills, capable of independent decision-making. The post-holder will have extensive research experience in medical statistics or a closely related discipline and be skilled in the analysis of large datasets using multilevel modelling with preferably some experience of fitting Bayesian models. A postgraduate qualification in medical statistics or a closely related area are essential.
Funding is available for one full-time equivalent, but this may be configured as a combination of part-time appointments.
