Join the club. I don’t know if saying this is any help, but me too. It might be no consolation but, I’m 76 and I still feel that way after many years. My first encounter in the design field was at a DRS conference in 1972 where I gave a paper on a model of design behaviour. Chris Jones was in the chair and said to the assembled participants: “The only model of design behaviour is a designer!”. That was not the worst put down, but it was the first from the Design community.
Against that, someone who I deeply admired, said to me at a conference: “Never lose your enthusiasm!” I never have.
The other things to say is that it is our job as researchers and designers to question, challenge, object, criticise, and (sometimes) support.
But, I do understand that caution and courage often conflict.
Two sayings come to mind:
1. If you don’t like the heat, get out of the kitchen,
2 If you don’t fight, you loose.
I hope this helps.
