Exhibitions Officer – temporary cover
The Francis Crick Institute
Salary: £27,000-£30,000
Full-time temporary role, 4-5 months
Start date: 13th August
Reporting to the Exhibitions Manager, the Exhibitions Officer will be based in the Public Engagement team, which is responsible for a range of activity including public and community engagement, and education outreach.
This role will support the successful delivery of the next temporary exhibition at the Francis Crick Institute. Opening early 2019, ‘Making it Happen’ (working title) explores a variety of behind-the-scenes technical roles that are essential to biomedical research at the Crick. The role will involve close work with the external curator and colleagues from across various technical support teams whose work is being featured in the exhibition, as well as direct management of external contractors supplying AV, photography and filmmaking services.
Main responsibilities • Liaising closely with the curator and exhibitions manager, you will be responsible for managing donations and loans from departments across the Crick, procuring any additional content / image licences and supporting the design and build teams to make best use of existing equipment and hardware • Working closely with the curator, filmmakers and photographers, you will project manage various shoots across the institute, carefully coordinating bookings with the technical support teams featured in the exhibition • The role will involve liaising with key stakeholders across departments to coordinate and minute regular project team and steering group meetings • Overseeing the maintenance of current exhibition and displays, acting as main point of contact for relevant contractors and collaborating with inhouse AV, events and facilities teams • The role will involve maintaining digital records and files for the exhibition and undertaking any other work that may be reasonably required from time to time.
Essential experience
• Gallery management experience, with a clear understanding of visitor access requirements and experience of collaborating with multiple teams (for example, front of house, security, facilities management, catering) within an exhibition setting • Experience of project managing exhibitions within a museum / gallery context • Experience of working with a range of external contractors, partners and stakeholders • Experience of researching and collating object and image lists, seeking copyright clearance and licenses when required
Skills and attributes
• Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to engage and build relationships with a range of stakeholders • Strong research and administrative skills, with a methodical approach and strong attention to detail • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative • High levels of self-motivation and strong organisational skills, with the ability to work confidently, effectively and collaboratively as part of a team, within an environment subject to change
