Kaplan International College London is seeking a Law and Social Sciences (LSS) External Examiner for its Foundation Certificate (RQF 3) and Pre-Master's programmes starting in September 2018.
We particularly interested in recruiting an experienced Social Science External Examiner to have oversight on the quality and standard of our assessments on the Foundation and Pre-Masters Programmes. Modules on the programmes include:
Foundation Certificate – BLSS
Introduction to Social Sciences
The individual State and Society
Introduction to Legal Principles and Systems
Pre-Master's – BLSS
Social Science Principles
Introduction to English, European and International Law
European, Liberal Democracy
Duties will involve:
Being available to participate in and endorse the outcomes of Assessment Boards through agreement at the meeting, or separately in writing, if you are unable to attend the Board;
• Ensure that the recommendations of the Board are consistent with the aims and curriculum of the programmes and with good practice in Higher Education (HE);
• Review the work of all students recommended for failure or for the available category of the Kaplan Award, and to sample student work from each category of the Kaplan Award;
• Assess and comment on draft examination papers, other assessment instruments, and guide marking schemes;
• Provide feedback on aspects of good practice and innovation that have a positive impact on the student learning experience;
• To submit an annual report for each programme or stand-alone module(s) examined.
Candidates who wish to apply should be able to demonstrate evidence of the following:
• Knowledge and understanding of UK sector agreed reference points for the maintenance of academic standards and assurance and enhancement of quality;
• Competence and experience in the field of teaching and learning in HE;
• Relevant academic and/or professional qualifications at least Master’s level;
• Competence and experience relating to designing and operating a variety of assessment tasks appropriate to the subject and operating assessment procedures;
• Sufficient standing, credibility and breadth of experience within the discipline to be able to command the respect of academic peers and, where appropriate, professional peers;
• Fluency in English;
• Competence and experience relating to the enhancement of the student learning experience.
We may also be able to consider applications from candidate who do not have previous experience as External Examiner but possess desirable specialist subject knowledge necessary to work and gain experience as External Examiner.
