A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated geospatial System Administrator to join WorldPop Research Group at the University of Southampton. Working as a part of the newly appointed Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) team, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise and skills to the development the geodata platform. This platform will underpin all technical aspects of the Geospatial Reference, Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3) project and WorldPop in general.
The post holder will work closely with University’s iSolutions team in supporting WorldPop's big data platform, web-based GIS tools and programmes, such as GeoServer, database maintenance, FTP server support and storage infrastructure. Further responsibilities will include testing, documenting, and supporting IT infrastructure for other WorldPop projects.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- System administration skills of Linux or UNIX server
- Knowledge of Python scripting
- Good knowledge of relational databases, version control tools and of developing GIS web services
- Strong technical and communication skills
You will work under the supervision of Dr Maksym Bondarenko, WorldPop Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, in offices in the city centre.
