Job Details:
Title: Lead Statistician
Position: Full time
Location: Ware, Hertfordshire
Required degrees: MSc

Your Responsibilities:
The Statistics and Chemometrics team supports the Ware GMS (Global Manufacturing and Supply) Site by providing first-class statistical analysis tools and interpretation to help with business decisions.  The team works closely with the site's leadership teams and is instrumental in data driven decision-making.


Job Purpose:
Reporting into the Statistics and Chemometrics Manager for the Ware GMS site, you will be responsible for providing a statistical service to site, with particular focus on delivery of analysis for technical and operational support (including data trending, process development and improvement, batch quality assessments, and root cause analysis).  This directly leads to capability build at the site, aligned to the requirements of Product Lifecycle Management and our zero waste/zero defect ambition.  As the Lead Statistician, you will work along-side a team of statisticians and will take responsibility for ensuring ongoing coaching, training and development of those individuals to meet the expectations and requirements of the Statistician role.  You will provide a statistical service to the site, ensuring that work is completed in accordance with regulatory and internal guidance, involving leading the statistical element of key projects.  Acting as a subject matter expert, you will also help interpret statistical outputs, alongside other scientific understanding, to deliver outcomes aligned to GSK values (specifically patient / consumer focus, and continuous improvement).  You will also contribute to the development of new standards and provide leadership of the statistical component to ensure that the site achieves its commercial objectives.

You will also coach, mentor, support, educate, and train non-statisticians, including senior-leadership teams, on the appropriate use of statistical methodologies (as required) for their business processes.  This includes evaluating analyses performed in business areas for approval prior to issue.  Additional responsibilities include actively participating in wider statistics network, ensuring that best practice is incorporated into local ways of working, and maintaining technical knowledge appropriate for the role.  This includes working closely with colleagues in R&D / other sites to ensure that product transfers meet the expected quality and business requirements from a statistical perspective.


About You:
This role will suit a driven self-motivated and experienced Statistician.  You will have a strong technical knowledge in statistics, including data trending, statistical process control, hypothesis testing, design of experiments, measurement systems analysis, and sampling methods.  You will also be proficient in the use of statistical software (SAS).  You will have a strong track-record of solving complex problems and developing solutions, be resilient and calm under pressure, with strong people skills and a proven ability to influence.

About Ware Manufacturing Site:
Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form. The site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company's pipeline of new medicines in these dose forms, many of which are life saving medicines. A series of investments in new state-of-the-art equipment are being made that will support the delivery of a record number of new products. This must be achieved whilst consistently delivering outstanding quality, service and value to our patients.

Basic qualifications:
* A MSC degree in Statistics (or Mathematics with statistics, Applied Statistics, or Chemometrics).

Preferred qualifications:
* Member of a major professional statistical society / association (e.g. ASA / RSS).
* Strong and diverse technical knowledge in statistics including data trending, statistical process control, hypothesis testing, Design of Experiments, measurement systems analysis, sampling methods.
* Proficient in the use of Statistical software (e.g. SAS / Statistical / JMP / SPSS / R / Matlab / Simca)
* Experience of providing statistical advice, guidance and training to non-statisticians.
