JOB POSTING - POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW
Area of Research: Transportation Justice / Transportation Planning / Emerging Technologies
Overview of the Position:
You will be joining Dr. Steven Farber's research group as a main contributor on two funded projects. The first project, co-supervised by Dr. Amer Shalaby in the Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering, aims to develop new public transit performance indicators to steer transit policy towards socially inclusive outcomes while incorporating emerging transport technologies such as automated vehicles and shared mobility services. The second project will evaluate the relationships between transit provision and daily activity patterns among socially disadvantaged groups in an effort to incorporate justice into transport policy and infrastructure decision-making.
We are seeking a single candidate for a 2-year term. The postdoctoral fellow will have office space at the University of Toronto St. George (downtown) campus, will have opportunities to collaborate with transportation researchers across multiple departments, and may affiliate themselves with the Spatial Analysis of Urban Systems<http://sausy.ca/> (SAUSy) Lab, the University of Toronto Transportation Research Institute<http://uttri.utoronto.ca/>, and the new School of Cities<http://schoolofcities.com/>. Description of Duties:
The successful candidate will conduct primary research in the abovementioned projects, will be lead-author on journal articles and conference presentations, and coordinate interactions between diverse project team members across university units as well as partners in the private and government sectors. The postdoctoral fellow will assist Drs. Farber and Shalaby in the development of this research program via the organization of a workshop, engage in partnership development, and participate in collaborative grant writing.
Required qualifications:
- PhD degree in planning, geography, engineering, or related field awarded within past 5 years;
- Extensive knowledge of transportation planning, transport equity, public transportation and emerging transportation technologies;
- Demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis, GIS and network analysis, and travel behaviour modelling;
- Excellent written and oral communication in English;
- Excellent personal time management, project management and organizational skills;
- Possess a passion or transportation planning, public transportation, and social equity.
Salary: $53,400/ year + benefits and 15 days of vacation

The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee's research and training and the needs of the supervisor's research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee's duties and hours of work.
