Kipling's estate did renew, but the only short story collections
affected are Land and Sea Tales (1923, out next year!), Debits and
Credits (1926), and Limits and Renewals (1932). If any of the stories
and poems in these were published separately (i.e., in a magazine or
chapbook) before 1923, they're in the public domain though the
collection is not. That is particularly fortunate in the case of his
poetry as both Poems 1886-1929 (1929) and the Definitive Edition
(1940) are still in copyright in the U.S..
Note also, with regard to the complexity of U.S. copyright law, that
there are different rules for works first published in the U.S. and
works first published abroad.
(See <https://copyright.cornell.edu/publicdomain>), though, again,
that should not affect Kim or the Jungle Books.
