Hello
I wanted to ask people's thoughts on a GDPR-related question. In preparation for GDPR, we’ve been reviewing our HR retention schedules to ensure we can justify how long we keep various types of employee personal information for.
We keep employee records for 6 years after an employee leave the service and then all documents and most of the personal data about an employee would be deleted. But we are looking to retain some basic personal data for employees beyond the 6 years in order to provide references and so we have a record of who has worked at the service.
We’re wrestling with how long we can justify keeping this for and I wanted to get a sense of what other organisations are doing and it would be really helpful if you could let me know how long you keep information on ex-employees for and what info you keep.
Many thanks
Christina
