GRADUATE CONFERENCE 2018
Translation and Lyrical Tradition between Italy and France
(19th-21st Century)
University of Padua, Department of Linguistic and Literary Studies
Padua, October 11-12, 2018
Keynote Speaker: VALERIO MAGRELLI
CALL FOR PAPERS
From the second half of the 20th century, scientific interest in translation has never ceased to grow. Not only as regards those aspects that relate to translation as ‘genre’, that is its purely literary implications, but also and especially as regards its sociological and cultural connotations. Major interest has been therefore shown in ‘literary transfer’, understood as one of the preferred aspects of a critical attempt to reinterpret literary history in a transnational perspective. In such a perspective translation in all its aspects appears to be a privileged token.
In this context the research project "TRALYT. Translation and Lyrical Tradition between Italy and France (19th-21st Century)" [SIR 2014 RBSI14URLE, financed by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research], currently in progress at the University of Padua, is focusing on digital mapping and critical discussion of the relationships between French (and Francophone) modern lyrical poetry and contemporary Italian (and Swiss-Italian) lyrics.
Within the project activities, the TRALYT research group and the DiSLL organize a Graduate Conference on translation of poetic texts between Italy and France from the 19th Century to the present day. Among the possible topics of the conference:
– Forms and ways of translation
– Translation theory
– History and historiography of translation
– Translation and publishing market
– Socio-cultural dynamics of translation
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to accept also other opportunely argued proposals that provide new perspectives on the topic.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS
The Conference is open to young researchers (graduated students, PhD candidates and early-career researchers), who intend to study the topic of translation from different perspectives. Those interested should send a communication proposal of 300 words (excluding the title and possible bibliography from word count) in .doc or .pdf format by June 30, 2018 to [log in to unmask] Applicants should also include their personal data (name, surname, e-mail address, affiliation and language of presentation) and a short CV, with a list of their main publications (no more than 2 pages).
Each presentation will last 20 minutes (followed by a 10-minute discussion) and may be in Italian, French or English. At the end of the conference there will be a round table, in which the themes and lines of research emerged during the conference will be discussed. There will also be a final presentation of the electronic database TRALYT.
Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by July 31, 2018.
No conference fees will be demanded. Travelling, accommodation and subsistence expenses will have to be covered by speakers themselves. Further practical information about the organization and the accommodations in Padua will be provided later.
Conference proceedings will be published in a peer-reviewed publication. Further indications (editorial rules, number of characters, deadline) will be provided at the end of the conference.

GRADUATE CONFERENCE 2018
Translation and Lyrical Tradition between Italy and France
(19th-21st Century)
Università degli Studi di Padova, Dipartimento di Studi Linguistici e Letterari
Padova, 11-12 ottobre 2018
Conferenza inaugurale: VALERIO MAGRELLI
Translation and Lyrical Tradition between Italy and France (19th-21st Century) [Progetto SIR 2014 RBSI14URLE, finanziato dal MIUR], attualmente in corso di realizzazione presso l’Università di Padova, volto alla mappatura digitale e alla discussione critica dei rapporti tra la lirica francese (e francofona) moderna e le contemporanee esperienze liriche in lingua italiana.
