Dear subscribers, we have an exciting postgraduate research opportunity to work at the cutting edge of rail design and construction.
Loughborough University's School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering is looking to recruit postgraduates to work in collaboration with High Speed 2 Ltd.
We are looking for three research engineers to work on this exciting new partnership with HS2, the largest construction project in Europe. Previous industrial experience is highly desirable.
Successful applicants will play a key part in ensuring HS2 is one of the world’s most technologically advanced railways, developing innovations which will help in the design, delivery and operation of the project. Iain Roche, HS2 Head of Innovation, stated: “We require cutting edge technology and innovation to enable us to deliver a 21st century railway which will set new standards in efficiency, cost-effective maintenance and reliability, and we are looking forward to exploring how the new thinking emerging from these doctorates will help us do that.”
The four-year Engineering Doctorate posts align with HS2’s priorities and build on existing areas of strength at the University.
The successful candidate will be largely based at the HS2 offices in Birmingham working with engineers, on site during construction for data collection, and at the university for academic training.
Vacancies exist in three areas: 'Resource Efficiency'; 'Data Capture and Management'; and "Innovations in construction quality of Trackbed and Geotechnical assets".
This latter project’s aim is to develop novel and effective practices for site based compliance monitoring and/or testing to verify appropriate build quality of placed soils/fill materials and trackbed support. The research aligns with HS2’s design standards for high-speed rail, and aims to facilitate a step-change in construction assurance in respect of quality, risk, safety and programme.
