Dear colleagues,
I would like to draw you attention to a new EU-SILC-Tool developed by Marwin Borst. As you might know EU-SILC covers a wide array of variables collected from households by the Member States. Among others, EU-SILC contains panel data that follows a rotational design. Each year, Eurostat publishes a series of separate datasets covering up to 4 years. "eusilcpanel" is a stata script (eusilcpanel stata package<http://www.etracker.de/lnkcnt.php?et=qPKGYV&url=https://www.gesis.org/fileadmin/upload/dienstleistung/daten/amtl_mikrodaten/europ_microdata/EU-SILC/Tools/eusilcpanelGESIS.zip&lnkname=fileadmin/upload/dienstleistung/daten/amtl_mikrodaten/europ_microdata/EU-SILC/Tools/eusilcpanelGESIS.zip>: eusilcpanel.ado; eusilcpanel.sthlp; totalpopulation.dta) written by Marwin Borst, that is able to merge these chunks of data into one cumulative dataset (separately for the D-,H-,R- and P- longitudinal data). The script makes the EU-SILC panel more accessible to researchers in the vast majority of cases, but it can't deal with data from all countries.
The steps necessary to cumulate the longitudinal data as well as a description of the Stata script are documented in:
Borst, Marwin (2018): EU-SILC Tools: eusilcpanel. First computational steps towards a cumulative sample based on the EU-SILC longitudinal datasets. GESIS Papers 2018/11, Mannheim.

Moreover the next (6th) EU-Microdata User Conferences will take place in March 7-8, 2019 in Mannheim.
Researchers of all disciplines (e.g. economics, demography, geography, political science, public health, and sociology)
who use Eurostat microdata (SILC, LFS, AES, SES, CIS, CSIS, EHIS, HBS and TUS ) are encouraged to participate and to submit an abstract.
All presentations must be comparative and include data from at least two countries.
The deadline for submissions of abstracts is September 29, 2018.
Proposals should be submitted online via the presentation submission form<https://www.gesis.org/en/services/events/events-archive/german-microdata-lab/european-user-conference-6/submission-form/> at the conference webpage<https://www.gesis.org/en/services/events/events-archive/german-microdata-lab/european-user-conference-6/>.
Abstracts should be 500 to 1000 words long. The abstract should be informative and clearly state the research question, the hypotheses, the methods and the dataset(s) used, the countries analyzed and a description of preliminary findings. Please do not include tables or figures in your abstract. The submitters will be notified by December 15, 2018, whether their abstract was accepted for presentation or not.
For any further questions please contact the local organizers Oshrat Hochman ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and Heike Wirth ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) .
Kind regards
