Dear all,
We have an industry-linked funded ”CASE” PhD opportunity at the University of Edinburgh on “Risk reduction in marine renewable energy via reduced uncertainty in statistical descriptions of multiscale, multivariate and spatially diverse marine environmental conditions”. This is supported through the E3 Doctoral Training Programme (funded by the National Environmental Research Council). The studentship is for 4 years (based on standard RCUK minimum stipend), with fees and research costs paid – a full stipend is available for UK and EU students, or non-EU students with settled residence status in the UK.
This project has the European Marine Energy Center as industrial partner. They will be involved in the supervision and training of the successful student throughout the PhD. There will also be a requirement for the student to travel to EMEC for a total of between 3 and 18 months during the studentship. Successful students will be required to do the equivalent of a 6-month internship over the duration of their PhD (at EMEC partner or elsewhere). They will also be associated with the E3 DTP <http://e3dtp.geos.ed.ac.uk/> cohort and expected to attend the specific DTP training courses and cohort building events.
The application form can be found at

Further details of the project can be found at https://www.geos.ed.ac.uk/postgraduate/PhD/getDocument?SerialNo=1338. Applications close on 18 June 2018, and applications for the range of projects listed there will be considered together.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and please pass this on to any potential candidates you know.
Best regards
Chris Dent
