With the End in Mind: Dying, Death and Wisdom in an Age of Denial
In Conversation with Kathryn Mannix
Wednesday 16th May 2018, 2:00 - 3:30pm
Senior Common Room, St Mary's University, Twickenham, London
----------------------------------------
Join us as Dr. Kathryn Mannix discusses the ideas and themes addressed in her new book, 'With the End in Mind: Dying, Death and Wisdom in an Age of Denial', in conversation with Maggie Doherty, Director of The Art of Dying Well.
Humans have the capacity to contemplate our own mortality. A mixed blessing: on the one hand, the finiteness of our lives allows us to appreciate the precious nature of passing moments; on the other, a fear of dying can permeate our living by contaminating it with anxiety.
Told through a series of powerful stories taken from Kathryn's clinical practice, interwoven with her own professional journey, this extraordinary book sends a vital message to the living and answers the most urgent, intimate and fascinating questions about the end-of-life process with touching honesty and humility.
'With the End in Mind' was shortlisted for the 2018 Wellcome Book Prize.
This event is free, open to all and requires no booking. There will be opportunity for guests to purchase a copy of the book at the event.
