College Profile:
The College of Medicine is the eighth college of Qatar University and was founded in October 2014. It is fully aligned with Qatar’s national strategies in Education and Health, as well as Qatar University’s strategic plan. The College of Medicine will admit the first cohort of students in Fall 2015 and will utilize an innovative ability-based curriculum and a student-centered approach to teaching and learning to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to graduate competent physicians to meet the health care needs of society. The College will offer a 6-year medical program, leading to an MD degree that will enable graduates to pursue advanced clinical training. Graduates will be prepared by the College of Medicine to sit for international medical licensing exams to ensure their seamless transition into the next phases of their medical careers. The College will contribute to medical education, patient care, medical research, and community outreach in Qatar. Duties & Responsibilities:
• The Research Assistant will work as part of the research team, liaising with a variety of stakeholders internal and external to the University and provide ongoing support to faculty members.
• Provide support to the research team, including but not limited to:
• Ongoing management of data collection for ongoing projects.
• Assisting in the preparation of research protocols and research articles.
• Maintaining and managing relevant databases.
• Performing library, internet and literature searches and preparing bibliographies.
• Assisting in the ethics approval for the research team as required.
• Support the timely and on budget delivery of the project.
• Provide general support on a range of research related matters, including coordinating team meetings, coordinating the communications to various stakeholders, and organizing relevant travel and events.
• Assist with marking of assessment and/or other teaching support.
• Perform other duties as requested, consistent with the classification level of the position and in line with the principle of multi-skilling.
Competences:
• Demonstrated experience using information systems, including the ability to generate complex reports, and demonstrated skills using the MSOffice suite.
• Experience in using high-level statistical software (e.g. Stata, R, SAS, SPSS) and bibliographical managements software (e.g. EndNote) will be regarded positively.
• Proven organizational skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to priorities own workload and to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, meeting competing deadlines and delivering high-quality outcomes.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft standard business correspondence and various research related papers, and an ability to consult and liaise effectively with a wide range of people in a culturally diverse environment.
Qualifications:
• A Master’s or higher degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or equivalent, Public Health (a concentration in Epidemiology or Biostatistics is preferred), or a Master of Applied Statistics (for Applied Statistics, coursework should include Biostatistics and application to a field of Public Health) is essential.
• Medical qualification such as MD, MBBS, or MBBCh would be highly regarded.
• Successful applications will be encourage to enroll in a PhD program.
• Demonstrated relevant experience in a research or research support role in a related discipline, and an interest in a field closely related to allocated research activities.
• Relevant experience in quantitative research methodology, computer skills, data analysis, and usage of statistical computer packages, with clear application to public health and population health are preferred.
