Hi Ted,
no, the 13 month olds will already be very different from what you are
looking at. I would definitely recommend using a dedicated infant
segmentation algorithm in your case. You might want to look at the stuff
from the group in Harvard (Simon Warfield) and at UNC Chapel Hill, among
others. Not sure in how far their approaches will be implementable in
Matlab and/or SPM, though.
