Hi,
I am glad your neurologists shared my view ;) Teenage years are a time
of many changes (in the brain, too) and hence an appropriately matched
template is a really good idea.
The Template-O-Matic of course is an excellent choice but it is a bit
dated. Also and as you noted, there is no way to generate a
DARTEL-template from it, the usage of which is effectively mandatory in
CAT12.
The good news is, there is a successor to the Template-O-Matic,
appropriately called CerebroMatic. It is based on the same idea, in that
relevant features are described statistically, based on a large
reference population. These statistical parameters can then be used to
generate a template based on your group's demographic information. The
new approach in CerebroMatic is the mathematical model; while TOM used a
general linear model, COM uses multivariate adaptive regression splines.
This allows for more flexibility (the age range covered in the available
parameter sets is infancy through to old age).
As an added bonus, the new toolbox is actually capable of generating
DARTEL-priors for you, based on the same principle. My suggestion would
therefore be to check out the relevant papers at
https://doi.org/10.3389/fncom.2017.00005
and at
https://doi.org/10.1016/j.dib.2017.12.001
and, if you like what you see, go to
https://irc.cchmc.org/software/cerebromatic.php
and get what you need. You will have to register but the download itself
is free.
As usual, I hope this helps.
Cheers
Marko
