Lincolnshire County Council Heritage Service is seeking an exceptional candidate for the role of Senior Collections Development Officer (Senior Archivist) within Lincolnshire Archives.

The successful candidate will have a relevant Archives post graduate qualification, for example a postgraduate diploma in Archive & Records Management (or equivalent), and demonstrate experience of managing or supervising a team within an archive.

The role of the successful candidate will be to manage, organise, catalogue, and care for the archive collections to ensure their preservation and to make best use of the material to promote the objectives of Lincolnshire Archives and the Heritage Service

You will also assist the Collections Development Manager in making effective use of the organisation's historical assets with particular reference to the management and preservation of the archive collection; this includes assisting in developing and implementing digitisation strategies for the collections.

The appointed candidate will take a lead in developing an integrated collections policy and strategy, and will contribute to the ongoing maintenance of relevant aspects of the Service's Accreditation Standards, using recognised sectoral toolkits such as Benchmarks in Collections Care.

Increased advocacy, public access to and engagement with the collections will be a major focus.

This work will be delivered across the whole of the Heritage Service, and its business locations (currently The Collection: Art & Archaeology in Lincoln, Museum of Lincolnshire Life, Gainsborough Old Hall, BBMF Visitor Centre, Lincoln Castle, Discover Stamford and Lincolnshire Archives) and will support the overall strategy and objectives of the organisation.

What we're looking for:

About the person:

•	With a postgraduate diploma in Archive & Records Management (or equivalent), candidates should have:
o	Knowledge of relevant archive accreditation standards
o	Knowledge of relevant data protection and copyright regulations relating to heritage assets
o	Good computer and technical literacy including experience with databases, digitisation projects and web projects
o	Good communication and presentation skills
o	Previous relevant experience in an archive role
o	Experience of archive management
o	Experience of cataloguing archive collections in digital databases
o	Experience of making bids for external funding
o	Experience of managing/supervising a team

You’ll be business minded with a track record of inspiring and leading people through change within an archive. You'll naturally inspire people, enabling your team through your leadership and energy. You should be insightful but fearless, acting as an outstanding ambassador and advocate for archival services.

You’ll need to be a confident decision-maker, problem-solver and excellent communicator, able to formulate and convey your vision for the team's future and work within a changing environment.
You will also undertake the full range of archival work, from reading room supervision and answering enquiries, to preparing displays, cataloguing and supporting the transfer and accession of records. In everything you do you will aim to engage a growing audience with an expanding collection of nationally significant material.

Whilst you’ll have experts in their fields around you, an understanding of managing/supervising a team and in particular an archival team within a high profile Archives would be an advantage. You will believe in placing the community and visitors at the heart of the business - and always be striving to give them a great experience through access to our own collections. The ability to manage collaborative projects with a range of internal and external stakeholders will be critical.
