The physics and chemistry departments of the University of Connecticut invite applications for a postdoctoral research position in the area of experimental ultrafast molecular dynamics / ultrafast physical chemistry. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD in physics, physical chemistry focusing in ultrafast molecular dynamics and energy transfer including the possible role of coherent phenomena, before the start date. A successful candidate should have the ability to produce high quality research in a fast paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Expertise with ultrafast lasers, velocity map imaging detection, and experimental UHV systems is desired. Ability or experience in writing publications is also preferred.

Subject: Postdoc position for ultrafast spectroscopy on singlet fission-sensitized solar cell materials
A postdoc position is available in the group of Laurens Siebbeles at Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands.
In some organic semiconductors a singlet excited state can be converted into two triplet states via the process of singlet fission. Singlet fission can be utilized to boost the efficiency of solar cells. The project involves development of a singlet fission add-on layer to Si solar cells.
At TU Delft you will carry out pump-probe laser spectroscopy on exciton and charge carrier dynamics in the add-on layer and charge transfer to Si. You collaborate with PhD students at AMOLF (group of Bruno Ehrler) and at Wageningen Universtity (group of Han Zuilhof) where studies on development of materials and devices are carried out. Industrial partners are also involved in the project (Toyota Motor Europe (Brussels), ECN and Surfix Nanocoatings) The add-on layer consists of e.g. tetracene and low band gap quantum dots. These will be coupled to the Si surface by special linker molecules.
You will study the formation, mobility and decay kinetics of excitons and charge carriers, using femtosecond and nanosecond pump-probe laser techniques with optical and terahertz/microwave conductivity detection. The spectroscopic studies should yield information about effects of the composition and structure of the add-on layer on the efficiency of singlet fission, Dexter or Förster energy transfer from the organic molecules to Si or quantum dots and eventual formation of free mobile charges in Si.
Candidates must have a doctors (Dr.) degree in physics, chemistry or a related area, and have experience with time-resolved spectroscopy. The project duration is two years. The gross salary is in the range 3111 - 4084 Euro/month excluding holiday allowance (~8%).
