As I saw this (https://goo.gl/raB5fs), I thought surely this kind of thing will usher
in a new field of research into linguistics politeness strategies between humans and
robots/artificial intelligence.
But a quick rummage around Google Scholar showed that some clever interdisciplinary
researchers are way ahead of me. I bring you the truly fabulously titled, 'The effect
of politeness strategy on human-robot collaborative interaction on malfunction of
robot vacuum cleaner': https://goo.gl/Y5hcSH. The article is at once pure delight and
manipulative capitalist dystopia. Programming the little doowackies to apologise and
even praise their fleshy owners. What a time to be alive. I, for one, welcome our
robot vacuum cleaner overlords.
