Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position, funded by a NIHR HS&DR research grant entitled "Remediating doctors performance to restore patient safety: A realist review", awarded to Prof Julian Archer (University of Plymouth), Dr Nicola Brennan (University of Plymouth), Dr Geoff Wong (University of Oxford) Prof Jen Cleland (University of Aberdeen), Dr Linda Prescott-Clements (National Clinical Assessment Service) and Lyndsey Withers. Supervision will be primarily provided by Dr Nicola Brennan and Prof Julian Archer.
The project aims to identify why, how, in what contexts, for whom, and to what extent remediation interventions work for practising doctors to restore patient safety. The role will involve conducting a realist review including developing a programme theory and search strategies; accessing, selecting and reviewing relevant documents; managing databases; liaising with key stakeholders, analysing and synthesising data; dissemination; producing the final report to the NIHR and writing and contributing to papers for peer review publication.
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated postdoctoral researcher to join the Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, working in support of the Collaboration for the Advancement of Medical Education Research & Assessment (CAMERA) based at Portland Square, University of Plymouth.
CAMERA brings together the activities of a multi-professional research group dedicated to the improvement of healthcare through evidence based education. We are a dynamic group of researchers undertaking educationally focused research funded by national bodies such as the National Institute for Health Research, the General Medical Council, and the Department of Health that is helping to shape the curricula in health at Plymouth and health policy across the UK and internationally.
You should hold a PhD, or be in submission of a PhD, in a related field. A background in systematic literature reviews is essential, and experience of carrying out a realist review is desirable.
This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week for a fixed term period of 18 months due to funding although a part time applicant would be considered. Start date 2nd April 2018.
