We have an opening in the Research team at Ordnance Survey for a Principal Research Scientist. This is a senior post, helping to set and manage the OS research agenda with universities & other research bodies.

About the Role

This in exciting opportunity to work alongside the Chief Geospatial Scientist to develop and lead the Ordnance Survey’s long-term research programme. Currently this research programme mostly comprises a portfolio of PhD and postdoc research projects around the Britain and further afield. Our research also reaches into technology demonstration and implementation projects in Britain and internationally in locations such as Singapore.

The primary focus points of the role are to provide leadership in developing the research portfolio, ensuring OS gets best value from its research investment; assisting in the development and coordination of research strategy; and to act as a thought leader and recognised geospatial science expert in OS and the industry.

You will particularly have responsibility for developing and managing the multidisciplinary research portfolio so we are interested in someone who can cross disciplines and who will be interested, for example, one day in social science topics in space and place, the next in extracting 3D content from Building Information Modelling, and at the end of the week in the dynamic data environment for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles.

Your focus will be on long-term transformation of the business’s focus and capabilities whilst also delivering on short-term objectives. In addition to research and development, an important aspect of this role is the enthusiastic promotion of the team’s activity to gain the support of our many stakeholders and to engage the business in commissioning appropriate research.

This job is based in Southampton at the Ordnance Survey HQ. Salary - £48,000 - £52,000. Closes 31/1/18.

Further details, and the links to apply online, are here: https://ordnancesurvey.csod.com/ats/careersite/JobDetails.aspx?site=1&id=617 - questions about the role, but not applications, can be directed to me. Please pass these details on as appropriate.
