FYI

Greetings all,
If anyone on this list is working on intersections of folklore/mythology and
medicine and would be interested in sharing their work at a colloquium at
UCLA in June, please message me ASAP with a brief description of your
proposed topic.
A working description of the program, presented in conjunction with the UCLA
Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, and entitled "'First Do No
Harm': On the Interplay of Folklore, Myth, and Medicine from the Ancient
World to the Renaissance and Beyond,” is as follows:
"This conference, organized by CMRS Affiliate Dr. Sara Burdorff (Lecturer,
English, UCLA), Prof. Stephanie Jamison (Asian Languages and Cultures, UCLA)
and Prof. Olga Yokoyama (Applied Linguistics, UCLA), examines the
intersections between mythology, folklore, and medicine in literature from
the classical through early modern periods. Inspired by UEI’s Freshman
Mythology Cluster (GE30) and drawing on sources ranging from hagiography,
Celtic and Scandinavian folklore, medieval romance, and early modern drama,
this conference engages the critical interplay between medical and literary
ideations of the trans-historical human experience."
I look forward to your responses.
All best,
Sara Burdorff
