University of Warwick - Warwick Business School - Operational Research & Management Sciences Group
Location: Coventry
Salary: £29,799 to £38,833 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed on: 5th December 2017
Closes: 4th January 2018
Fixed term contract until 14 April 2018, with a possibility of a 7-8 month extension.
We have an opportunity for a Research Fellow to work on a two year project called: “Coordinated capacity ordering and trajectory pricing for better-performing Air Traffic Management”.
The project is funded by the European Commission and encompasses three teams at universities in Germany, Serbia and the UK. The position will be based at Warwick Business School. Dr Arne Strauss, Associate Professor of Operational Research, will lead the team at Warwick.
The project proposes coordinated measures aiming to pre-emptively reconcile air traffic demand and airspace capacity. As part of the Warwick team, you will be involved in developing and testing mathematical models that would allow a centralised European air traffic control agency to manage both demand (using innovative dynamic pricing approaches) and supply (by ordering airspace capacities in anticipation of future demand). The project will involve choice modelling and large-scale optimisation techniques.
You will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (or be close to completion). Further to this you will have proven experience in mathematical aspects of operational research, in particular optimisation, experience in working with data, excellent report writing skills and a record of developing journal publications to communicate the results of research. You will have an interest in research in the field of air traffic management and/or revenue management.
Well-developed team working, communication, interpersonal skills and a proven track record of delivery are essential. For informal inquiries, please contact Dr Arne Strauss. ([log in to unmask]).
