Shit me as a motorist
Fanning out, so slow.
Clogging up the bitumen
Where I want to go.
But this afternoon in Castlemaine,
Snaffling up a park,
a revelation rocked me.
I won’t keep you in the dark.
Kids still ride to school and back.
Now, that’s a thing to like.
By schoolyard wall in Urquhart St,
Stood 30, 40 bikes.
And even though the day was hot,
Some 38 degrees,
The bikes were cool and shaded,
Under sails, if you’ll believe.
Remembered riding home myself,
Time was all my own.
Not an SU bloody V in sight
Or a mobile bloody phone.
So time to get my Orwell on.
Become a bike defender.
Four wheels may be very good
But two wheels even better.
