BASEES members may like to know that there are five other Jiscmail lists in
our subject area: (approx. membership in brackets) (BASEES-MEMBERS has 674)
[log in to unmask] This is a BASEES project. (199)
[log in to unmask] S. A. Oushakine posts American items,
and there are also many European messages. (183)
[log in to unmask] (324)
[log in to unmask] (132) Also includes a vanishing subject,
Russian linguistics..
[log in to unmask] (82) Many contributions from Robert Chandler

IMHO any complications added to the use of Jiscmail would probably result in
a fall-off of usage, after all we are already being almost forced to use
Twitter and Facebook and Heaven knows what else.
At least Jiscmail (mostly) accepts attachments, is polite and helpful, there
are no trolls, it has an excellent Helpline, it is free of charge and of
adverts (except those that we send ourselves).
If I could make one comment, it would be that I am continually surprised
that people send messages intended for postgrads to the BASEES list, but not
to the BASEES-sponsored slavonic-ee-postgrad list.

By the way, would anyone else like to take over the job I do, which is pass
messages over to the most appropriate lists?
Might suit a retired academic who likes to keep in touch with her/his
subject?

European Studies: “Traditions and Transformations”

Sorry kindly for additional insights,

BASEES for me personally was and has been a forum of one of the highest
standings in the field of ex-socialist world-inspirational and
motivating.Diversity of its sessions strengthens and deepens professional
and academic discussions. It sets one of the highest criteria and
guidelines.Subscribes trust it and value it.

Perhaps, subscription could be either monitored or subdivided into two
streams? Monitored and affiliated one?

Also, while I mentioned previous absense of interest towards Russia on
behalf of Australian APSA, I have forgotten to emphasize another specialized
forum in Australia .It is affiliated to the
Australasian Association for Communist and Post-Communist Studies (AACaPS)
and represents dedicated Australian scholars, who have been contributing to
the studies in the field on a very high level. These conferences have been
getting serious interest in Australia and abroad .

May be website of BASEES could establish links to the existing key
associations for its members to know about?
And another section for conferences that are not "co-membered" with it?

It might be very important for some young scholars to know how to navigate
in the world of academic forums.

with all the kind regards,
and thank you for any time on reading my opinion on subscription,

Yelena.

I am happy to see people publicising the events that they are organising.
If, however, you advertise an event and link it to web pages and a form that
look like they come from a predatory organisation then you can expect
sarcasm. If you are an honest organisation and this is an honest effort at
organising an event good luck. However, you have, unfortunately perhaps,
publicised and presented yourselves in a way that does not inspire
confidence. Perhaps you can rethink your approach so as to be spared my
sarcasm?

Dear Professor Neil Robinson,

There is no need to be so sarcastic. I thought every BASEES member was
welcome to share the events they are co-organising.

If you have a problem with the organisation's correspondence address, why
don't you simply pass instead of leaving those sarcastic comments that are
devaluating the work of a dozen people involved in the project?

Best wishes,
