Lecturer in Statistics (Confirmation Path)

Applications are invited for a confirmation path position as Lecturer to join the Statistics Group in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. This opportunity would suit active researchers who wish to further their career in an academic environment. The US equivalent of this appointment is tenure-track Assistant Professor.
We encourage applications from candidates in any area of statistics. Research strengths of the department include ecological and environmental statistics, stochastic modelling, point processes, Bayesian inference, hidden Markov models, scoring rules, model-averaging, over-dispersion, clinical trials, epidemiology, quantitative genetics and statistical genetics.
The Role
The successful applicant will participate fully in the Department’s research and teaching activities. They will be capable of teaching a range of our Statistics papers, from first-year to post-graduate, and will supervise postgraduate research students.
Candidates will be expected to develop an independent and productive research programme. The University values research and research informed teaching, and teaching assignments and loads are structured accordingly. We encourage academics to establish and maintain international research collaborations, and we support this with generous research/sabbatical and conference leave.
Skills and Experience
• PhD degree in Statistics or equivalent
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing research in Statistics with potential to develop a research program of international repute
• Demonstrated success and/or aptitude in teaching Statistics

The position is full time and permanent subject to the satisfactory completion of the confirmation-path objectives for new appointees. The confirmation path process is similar to the process of gaining tenure but is entirely internal with predetermined objectives. The salary range is $78,445 to $93,821
