The Centre for World Cinemas and Digital Cultures at the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies (LCS) at the University of Leeds invites applications from outstanding PhD candidates for scholarships funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
Colleagues in the Centre for World Cinemas and Digital Cultures provide supervision on a broad range of topics, from silent cinema, film theory,heritage cinema, digital documentary, gender in World Cinema, Austrian cinema, French cinema, Italian cinema, South American cinema, film festivals.
The School of Languages, Cultures and Societies in which the Centre is based includes Centre for World Cinemas & Digital Cultures ; Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies; Centre for Translation Studies; Classics; East Asian Studies; French; German, Russian and Slavonic Studies; Italian; Linguistics and Phonetics; Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies.
Our friendly PGR community of some 200 researchers is very diverse both in terms of areas of the world its PGRs are investigating and the disciplinary nature of subjects being studied. Broadly speaking, our PGRs will come from one of, or a combination of the following disciplinary fields. Humanities, Film Studies, Social Sciences, Languages, Linguistics & Translation Studies, Cultural, Literary Studies. We are a vibrant and active community with many interdisciplinary and discipline-specific research events and activities happening in the School which Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) are encouraged to attend. There is also funding available to PGRs who wish to organise their own workshops, conferences and other events.
