I recently moved to Contaminated Land after 30 years in Air Quality in complete frustration over the way the Air Quality world relies on computer models to estimate values instead of actually taking measurements. Sadly the world of Contaminated Land seems also beset with issues over measurement uncertainly and an inability to agree on reliable and accurate measurements. On a positive note, Air Quality may be more in the public consciousness but, is being starved of money and resources.

Subject: Re: Time for a change....
Land contamination is an old issue and side-lined in local authorities due to lack of funding and attention in favour of Air Quality where the damning statistics of the harm done are much clearer and where government is actively pushing responsibility to regional and local government for strategies and management. Its also possible to see some measures improving the AQ situation significantly in a 5 to 10 year period.
I see no prospect of a focus returning to land contamination unless and until there is a major incident or scandal and its hard to imagine a scenario with sufficient national impact unless maybe Grefell tower fire issues spins off some points about putting social housing on the worst land with the least budget to investigate, build and pay for quality follow throughs.
Air quality more important than land contamination/radon etc debate!
