With apologies for cross-posting, this is a repeat of the message circulated a month ago on behalf of the editorial team of the Anglo-Norman Dictionary who are gathering data from members of the archives profession for their ongoing project. They are particularly grateful for responses already received but very aware of how busy colleagues in the archive profession are and that a reminder might be helpful. Full details and contacts are provided in the message below.

The Anglo-Norman Dictionary ( www.anglo-norman.net ) is an AHRC-funded project based in the Modern Languages Department at Aberystwyth University, which is seeking to record and define the dialect of French used in Britain between the Norman Conquest and 1500. The Dictionary has been online and undergoing a substantial revision since 2001, incorporating new functionality as well as substantially increasing the number of sources cited.
As a part of the current AHRC-funded project, supporting the revision of R- and S-, the AND editors wish to survey the extent and nature of material written in Anglo-Norman French among collections held by British archives in order to identify future areas of research. A systematic survey of all Anglo-Norman archival material has never been attempted, and it is hoped that, with your assistance, we might achieve a better understanding of how this language was used during the Middle Ages and where these records are currently kept. Every response to the survey will be very useful to us, even if it simply informs us that no relevant documents are held by your archive. The data you provide on this subject will be summarized in a journal article to appear in the coming year.
In addition, we are planning to develop online tools to assist in the identification of Anglo-Norman French documentation. To that end, this survey will help us understand what types of language training you might have received and what types of tools and training you would find most useful.
The survey can be downloaded as a word file: https://tinyurl.com/y9l9ftfd
or as a pdf file: https://tinyurl.com/y8lhzjxs
[Please note: You do not need to have Dropbox to open the file - clicking the bottom link will take you directly to the survey.]
Please direct your response to the survey and any questions about it to Dr. Heather Pagan at [log in to unmask] We would appreciate receiving your responses by email or by post before December 1st, 2017.
Thank you in advance for your collaboration.
