Co-founded by anthropology <http://anuanthropology.weblogs.anu.edu.au/> PhD
candidates from the Australian National University, The Familiar Strange
uses anthropological thinking to explore this time of jarring social,
cultural and political messiness. We want to reach out to a wider community
about what anthropologists do within and beyond ‘field sites’. We ask
anthropologists to bring their tools to bear, and to make anthropological
contributions more broadly familiar.
We hope you’ll engage with us in this experimental public anthropology
project. We encourage you to listen, read, but also contribute to the
dialogue - comment, give feedback, suggest expert interviewees you’d like
to hear from, and tell us what you want to see more of as a community.
Anthropologists, at all levels of training, please consider submitting a
blogpost! You’ll find our submission guidelines on the site
<https://thefamiliarstrange.com/about/writeforus/>.
The Familiar Strange is generously supported by the Australian
Anthropological Society, and the ANU’s Schools of Culture, History &
Language, and Archeology & Anthropology, and we’re very grateful for that
support. We’re also indebted to the knowledge and patience of Dr Will Grant
at ANU’s Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (and cohost of The
Wholesome Show <http://wholesomeshow.com/>).
