POSTED ON BEHALF OF JENNIFER GILES, NLS - PLEASE RESPOND TO JENNIFER ([log in to unmask] ) NOT ME
Dear Archivist
SCOTTISH LOCAL HISTORY DIRECTORY PROJECT
This is a follow-up message to an earlier post explaining that The Scottish Local History Forum (SLHF), the National Library of Scotland (NLS), and Local Studies Scotland (LOCSCOT) have embarked on a project to update "Exploring Scottish History" by Michael Cox. As you will know, the most recent edition of this directory was published in print by the Scottish Local History Forum, Scottish Library Association and the Scottish Records Association in 1999, so is now very out of date, and there is no similar resource that we are aware of which is focussed specifically on resource centres, libraries, archives and collections throughout Scotland that are relevant to local and family history. The intention is to create a database to highlight these collections and help potential researchers to find what is most appropriate for them.
The previous message was to request expressions of interest to join our User Group - and thanks to those who replied.
This message is a request for contact information so that we can ensure that we will be able to include all relevant archive collections in the online resource. For this reason it would be extremely helpful if you could email me ([log in to unmask]) with the name of your archive and its parent authority if relevant, and if you could provide contact names and email addresses too. We want to include all such collections within Scotland, but would also like to hear from you if you are based outwith Scotland but have collections of Scottish relevance.
Please don't send any other information just now, as this is just to ensure that you are on the list for us to contact next year, when we will send you an online form to use to submit collection and access information.
Thanks in anticipation of your help,
Jennifer
